Generations of Stigma
Women and PrEP
We Are You is a working group focused on providing culturally relevant HIV prevention education and care support for immigrant communities. The group will conduct a needs assessment, develop tailored educational materials, and launch an awareness campaign through social media or video messaging. Expected outcomes include survey findings and campaign products to better engage and support immigrant populations.
Our HPG Stigma Work Group focuses on middle-aged men who have sex with men (MSM) of color, examining how HIV-related stigma creates barriers to testing, treatment, and prevention services. Using a data-driven approach, we will integrate community partnerships and lived experiences to develop targeted messaging that identifies where HIV-related stigma is most prevalent within this population and outlines effective strategies to address and reduce its impact.
Our workgroup will be focusing on increasing awareness, access, and uptake of PrEP, specifically long-term injectables, among women in NYC, with focus on Black and Latina women. We will collaborate and leverage relationships with different organizations, subject matter experts, and social media to educate and promote PrEP. We hope to increase awareness and knowledge of long-acting injectables and improve provider-patient relationships to decrease stigma and shame related to discussions on sexual health.

Working with Youth
Community Health Workers (CHWs) are an essential part of the HIV workforce as frontline workers at hospitals, clinics, community organizations, and in communities. CHWD identifies and addresses the training, development, and treatment needs of CHWs working in HIV care and prevention.
To conduct community-based outreach and develop coordinated intervention strategies that respond to the identified needs of individuals who engage in sex work, using a trauma-informed, non-judgmental, and harm-reduction approach.
Young people often encounter significant barriers in accessing HIV testing and treatment services. These challenges may stem from lack of awareness, stigma, or healthcare systems that are not tailored to their needs. Prevention efforts often underserve young people and rarely include their perspectives. Our project seeks to elevate young people’s voices by creating space for them to advocate for their health and social priorities—especially regarding comprehensive sexual health education and services—and to convey their recommendations to the appropriate organizations and agencies.
